Benjamin A. Hauschildt

Benjamin Adam Hauschildt died September 18, 2010 in Pine River, Minnesota. He was born on August 24, 1979 in Rochester, Minnesota.

Benjamin is survived by his son, Anthony Hauschildt of Waite Park, MN; mother and stepfather, Kaye and Wayne Lantz of Kasson, MN; father and stepmother, Dennis and Jeannie Hauschildt of Hackensack, MN; sister and brother-in-law, Jessica & Leionel Ouimet of Kasson, MN; nephews, Creedon, Tagen and Josiah of Kasson, MN; and grandparents, Julie & Erv Hrabik of Kasson, MN and Beverly Hoisington of Rochester, MN.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Community Celebration Church, 27401 County Highway 34, Kasson, MN with Pastor Steve Larson officiating.

Stanley H. Decker

Stanley Herbert Decker, 83, passed away on September 10, 2010 at the Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, MN following an illness with cancer.

Stanley was born on September 17, 1926, in Elba Township to Maude and Jacob Decker. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from St. Charles High School on May 17, 1945. He went into the Army and served from April of 1945 to November 23, 1945 receiving a WW II Victory Medal.

On September 1, 1951 Stanley married Mildred Patricia Munson. He was employed by Whitewater State Park while also farming on the family farm near Elba. The family moved to Kasson in 1970. He was last employed by Neitz Electric and was an electrician for 40 years, retiring in 1992.

Stanley was a member of the Kasson American Legion Post 333, the IBEW Union, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kasson. On October 8, 2008, Stanley was honored to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred; brother, John and sister, Hazelle.

His is survived by his brother Norman (Janet) Decker; five children, Monica (Robert) Hedman – Rochester, Scott (Cathy) Decker – Byron, Mark (Eleanor) Decker – Byron, Steven Decker – Shakopee, and Christopher (Kristin) Decker – Kasson; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Friends and family may gather for a time of remembrance for Stanley from 5 PM to 7 PM on Tuesday, September 14, at the Dibble Funeral Home, 213 W. Main St., Kasson. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 15, at the First Presbyterian Church, 101 Sixth Avenue NW, Kasson, MN with Pastor Clint Patterson officiating. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church. A burial service will be held at a later date at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Kasson American Legion and the Mantorville VFW.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in the name of Stanley Decker may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Kasson American Legion Post 333 or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Marvin F. Marquardt

Marvin Frank Marquardt, 72, of rural Kasson, MN passed away September 10, 2010 after a lengthy illness. Marvin was born on February 21, 1938 in Kasson, MN to Frank and Hulda (Scherger) Marquardt.

He graduated from Dodge Center High School in June of 1955. Marvin joined the Army in 1957 and served until 1959. On September 5, 1959 he married Elaine Engelstad at Pleasant Corners Church in rural Kasson. In 2009, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family. Marvin was previously employed at Gopher Aviation, Underground Construction, VonRuden Manufacturing, Welsh Farms and in 1973, purchased a farm south of Kasson where he continued to live and work until the time of his death. He was a member of the American Legion in Hayfield, MN.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; son, Richard (Jill); daughters, Tamara (Wayne) Alberts and Sheila (Dan) Burton; sister, Carolyn (Bud) Polk; brothers, David (Patty) Marquardt and Larry Marquardt; grandchildren, Jason (Jenny), Eric, Melissa and Jacqueline Marquardt, Weston, DJ (Nicole) and Chloe Alberts, Drew and Breah Burton; and great-grandchild, Gage. Marvin will also be remembered by his coffee friends, Sterling and Ken and his special dog friend, Buster. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Cynthia.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, 10:30 am at the Pleasant Corners United Methodist Church, 21927 – 650th Street, Kasson, MN with Pastor Karen Seavey, officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service; there will be no reviewal. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Dodge Center, MN. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Hayfield American Legion.

Memorials are preferred to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Glenn R. “Boge” Boyum

Glenn R. “Boge” Boyum, lifetime resident of Kasson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 2, at the age of 82. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson. Glenn was born to Sanford and Lillian Boyum on April 2, 1928. After graduating from Kasson High School in 1946, Glenn began a long career at Erdman’s grocery store, working his way from bag boy to manager.

On June 4, 1950, Glenn married Ellen Joyce Johnson. Together they raised four children in the same home that Ellen continues to reside in today. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family.

Hard working and nurturing, Glenn was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and is known for his many years of ushering on Sunday mornings and number calling at the church’s annual Lutefisk dinner. Glenn was a volunteer fire fighter for the City of Kasson for 34 years, second longest service ever for the Kasson Fire Department. He was also a member of the Kasson Commercial Club, the Kasson Bi-Centennial Committee, and served on church council.

With his family, he planned and served the K-M Golf Challenge for several years. He was instrumental in bringing senior housing to the City of Mantorville in the form of the Chestnut Street Apartments, which he co-owned and managed for many years.

Dating back to his high school years, Glenn had a passion for athletics and was a fierce competitor in football, basketball, track and baseball. His love for sports continued throughout his lifetime and was most evident in his enthusiasm for the activities in which all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated. Athletic highlights during his lifetime included being named Kasson Raiders Athlete of the Year in both 1945 and 1946, and at the age of 75, Glenn shot his first and only hole-in-one at the Zumbro Valley Golf Course.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Ellen, and four children, Sharon (Dallas) Ness of Mantorville, David (Kim) Boyum of Mantorville, Sandee (Doug) Kimble of St. Anthony, and Kristine (Keith) Knutson of Pine Island; twelve grandchildren, Marlo Bungum, Katie Primmer, Jeremy Quandt, Maggie Fitch, Lee Kimble, Mark Kimble, Rachel Linbo, Glenn Boyum, Adam Kimble, Corey Kimble, Andrew Knutson, and Zachary Knutson; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Dorothy Bennett of Plainview, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Boyum; and brother-in-law, Archie Bennett.

Visitation will take place from 9:00-10:45 am on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kasson.

Josephine B. “Jo” Head

The memorial service for Josephine “Jo” Head will be at 10:00 am on Friday, September 3 at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Dodge Center, MN with Pastor Tom Bentley officiating. Visitation will also be at the church on Thursday, September 2, from 4:00-8:00 pm and 1 hour prior to the service on Friday.

Jo died August 31, 2010 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN.

Josephine Bertha Cady was born to Ray and Ella “Eva” (Hodge) Cady on October 18, 1920 in Wasioja Township. She married Howard E. Head in September of 1940. They raised five sons and lived most of their married life in Kasson, MN.

Jo was energetic and hard-working and had a tender and generous heart. She was a faithful member of the Dodge Center Seventh Day Adventist Church for many years.

Her work outside the home included employment at the Home Bakery and Leuthold’s, both in Kasson. “Jo Head Day” was declared and celebrated by Leuthold’s and the community when she retired.

Survivors include sons Leslie (Janet), Denny (Donna), Michael (Linda), all of Kasson; Alan (Marie) of Dodge Center and daughter-in-law Ruth (Bradford) Head of Mantorville; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Milton (Dorothy) Cady of Douglas, MN and one sister, Phyllis (Victor) Scott of Rochester.

Jo was preceded in death by her husband, eldest son, Robert, two sisters, three brothers and one great-grandson.

Memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice.
